BRUSSELS, 25 JANUARY 2024 – On the occasion of the launch of the strategic dialogue on the future of agriculture, IFOAM Organics Europe expresses its support for this initiative. IFOAM Organics Europe welcomes the opportunity to engage in discussions aimed at achieving more dialogue and less polarisation in the agri-food sector.

Jan Plagge, President of IFOAM Organics Europe, states that “The challenges facing European farmers, whether practicing organic or conventional methods, are evident: unfair prices, subsidy reduction, competition in relation to imported goods, and regulatory contradictions, to name a few. However, frustrations towards the EU, the European Green Deal, or environmental legislation are counterproductive. Instead, this dialogue should focus on identifying the true roots of these challenges”.

Jan Plagge added: “In a moment where farmers protests are occurring in Europe, IFOAM Organics Europe believes in the necessity of going beyond political polarisation and looks forward to contributing to building bridges and fostering understanding and cooperation across all sectors involved in agriculture.”

IFOAM Organics Europe also wishes to express solidarity with the tragedy that occurred in France where a farmer and her daughter lost their lives during a protest.
